The Best Hotels in Muscat, by Price Range (2026)

The Best Hotels in Muscat, by Price Range (2026)

Muscat is a Gulf capital that decided against the race — and quietly won on quality. Here is how to choose between its handful of genuinely world-class hotels.

Muscat's luxury hotel scene is compact and increasingly strong. Four properties set the standard: the Mandarin Oriental, opened June 2024 and already the most discussed hard product in the city; the St. Regis Al Mouj, the newest beach resort and the STARS flagship; and The Chedi, the property that defined Oman luxury for two decades. Below them, the W is an accessible Bonvoy option on the beach. Al Bustan Palace, the historic fifth member of the set, is closed until 2028.

We organise Muscat's hotels into tiers based on what the property is built to deliver, not what it calls itself. Here's how that framework works →

All rates are indicative cash rates for a lead room in shoulder season (Nov–Mar).

Elevated Luxury

★ Our pick

The Mandarin Oriental has the strongest hard product and the most central location. The St. Regis Al Mouj is the right choice for beach, butler service, and the cleanest STARS implementation in Oman. The Chedi remains compelling for the pool and architecture — but note the programme change: it is now bookable via Hilton Honors, not Hyatt.

Mandarin Oriental, Muscat: The best hard product in the city — and the most central

Best forBest all-round hotel experience in Muscat; the strongest design and hard product; central Shatti Al Qurum location walkable to the beach strip
BookingDirect or via preferred travel partner for Fans of MO perks
PositivesOpened June 2024; 103 rooms and 47 suites; sophisticated Omani design detail throughout; 9.4/10 on Booking.com; the FlyerTalk Oman thread calls it "the best hard product in Muscat, if not all of Oman"
Watch out forNo traditional loyalty points programme — Fans of MO is a preference/perks programme, not earn-and-burn; service warmth reported as a relative weak point vs. other MO properties

The Mandarin Oriental opened in June 2024 in Shatti Al Qurum — Muscat's central hotel and beach district — and has quickly become the most talked-about hotel in the city. The design is the story: subtle, precise Omani references throughout (headboards echo the colours of the traditional kumma cap; bedside lamps reference the khanjar dagger), finishes are excellent, and the location puts guests within walking distance of the beach and the city's restaurant strip. At 150 keys across 103 rooms and 47 suites, it is a boutique property by Gulf standards.

FlyerTalk's Oman recommendations thread is unequivocal: the consensus is that this is the best hard product in Muscat, if not all of Oman. The nuance is that service — while professionally accomplished — has been noted as lacking the particular warmth that other Mandarin Oriental properties are known for. Booking.com guests rate it 9.4 overall, with 9.7 for cleanliness and 9.6 for staff; the service note comes from more discerning frequent travellers.

Programme note: Mandarin Oriental runs Fans of MO, a preference and perks programme rather than a points-based loyalty scheme. There are no points to earn or redeem; instead, direct bookers and preferred partner clients receive room upgrades, F&B credit, and recognition. Pearl and Silk status tiers were added in 2025 for the most loyal guests. For clients expecting a Hyatt or Bonvoy redemption, this is not the right property — but for those prioritising hard product and location, it is the best hotel in Muscat.

From ~US$350–550; suites from US$650.

The St. Regis Al Mouj Muscat: The STARS flagship — beach resort and butler service

Best forBeach and marina setting; Bonvoy STARS perks and Titanium upgrades; most consistent STARS implementation in Oman
BookingMarriott STARS →
PositivesOpened June 2024; 250 rooms and villas; 1.5km private beach; butler service throughout; Al Hajar mountain views from upper floors; FlyerTalk confirms strong Titanium upgrade track record
Watch out forAl Mouj is a marina district — 20 minutes from the Muttrah corniche and old Muscat; pool-adjacent restaurant terraces can create noise for some room types

The St. Regis Al Mouj opened in June 2024 in the Al Mouj marina district — Muscat's newer, residential waterfront neighbourhood — and is the cleanest expression of STARS in the Gulf. The FlyerTalk Bonvoy master thread confirms it: Titanium members are receiving meaningful room upgrades (150sqm suites with sea view reported), the butler service rituals are properly implemented, and the property's 1.5-kilometre private beach gives it a resort credential the Mandarin Oriental lacks. Upper floor rooms face the Al Hajar ridgeline — one of the more dramatic mountain views from a Gulf hotel.

The location note is worth stating clearly: Al Mouj is 20 minutes from old Muscat and the Muttrah corniche. This is a resort base with city day trips, not a city hotel. For guests who want the beach and the STARS programme, it is the strongest option in Oman. For guests who want the best location and hard product, the Mandarin Oriental is the better call.

From ~US$350–500; suites and villas from US$600.

The Chedi Muscat: The hotel that defined Oman luxury — now bookable via Hilton Honors

Best forDesign and atmosphere; the 103-metre pool; the GHM Oman aesthetic; Hilton Honors SLH perks
BookingHilton Honors via Hilton.com (SLH partnership) for elite perks and points; or direct
PositivesIconic 103-metre pool; teak-and-stone Asia-influenced design; 158 rooms; central Qurm beach district; GHM benchmark property
Watch out for⚠️ No longer part of World of Hyatt — Hyatt-SLH partnership ended May 15, 2024. Now bookable via Hilton Honors (Hilton-SLH partnership); product is showing some age relative to the 2024 competition

The property that made Oman a luxury destination. When The Chedi opened, its 103-metre pool — the longest hotel pool in the world at the time — set a visual template that other Oman resorts have been chasing ever since. The design language is GHM's signature Asia-influenced restraint: teak, stone, water features, clean geometry in an Arab setting. 158 rooms and suites across low-rise pavilions on Qurm beach, in the most central part of Muscat's hotel corridor.

It remains a compelling stay. The pool, the beach position, and the architecture still work. Programme update: The Chedi left the World of Hyatt ecosystem when the Hyatt-SLH partnership ended on 15 May 2024. It is now bookable via Hilton Honors through the Hilton-SLH partnership. Hilton Honors elite benefits at SLH properties include continental breakfast for two, space-available room upgrade, and late checkout. You earn Hilton Honors points when booking through Hilton channels. World of Hyatt points can no longer be earned or redeemed here.

The honest note on the product: it is showing some age relative to the Mandarin Oriental and St. Regis, both of which opened in 2024. For guests who want the GHM pool, the design, and The Chedi specifically — it remains worth booking. For guests choosing between the three top-tier options, the MO and St. Regis offer newer hard product.

From ~US$300–450.

★ Our pick

The W is the best Bonvoy redemption option in Muscat at a lower rate. The JW Marriott is the city's leading business hotel — worth noting for travellers combining Muscat with work at the Convention Centre.

W Muscat: Accessible STARS, beachfront, and strong for Bonvoy redemptions

Best forBonvoy members wanting a beachfront stay at a lower cost; accessible premium tier with STARS perks
BookingMarriott STARS →
Positives900-metre beach; rooftop pool and bar; 327 rooms; Bonvoy points redemption; best value STARS property in Muscat
Watch out forW brand energy and aesthetic can feel incongruous in Muscat; service less consistent than the St. Regis

The W sits in Shatti Al Qurum — the hotel district between Al Mouj and the city — with 327 rooms, a rooftop pool, and 900 metres of beach. It is the most accessible point of entry into STARS benefits in Muscat. The beach and the evening energy at the rooftop bar are genuine assets. Service reviews are more variable than the St. Regis. The hotel's brand aesthetic — maximalist, nightlife-forward — sits at a slight angle to Muscat's quieter character, which will be either a draw or a mismatch depending on the guest.

From ~US$200–350.

JW Marriott Muscat: The business hotel — near the Convention Centre

Best forBusiness travellers; guests attending events at Oman Convention Centre; Bonvoy points earn/redemption
BookingBonvoy direct
Positives303 rooms; 4 restaurants; 3 outdoor pools and gardens; strong F&B; Best Business Hotel in Oman (Business Traveller Awards 2025); direct connectivity to the Convention Centre
Watch out forLocated at Madinat Al-Irfan near the airport — not a beach or central hotel; primarily oriented to business and conference guests rather than leisure

The JW Marriott is Muscat's leading business hotel, positioned at Madinat Al-Irfan with direct access to the Oman Convention Centre. 303 rooms, 4 restaurants including outdoor gardens and pools. It is not competing for the same leisure guest as the MO, St. Regis, or Chedi — the positioning is firmly business and conference — but for travellers whose Muscat visit includes work, or who need a Bonvoy earn near the airport, it is a well-run property. Named Best Business Hotel in Oman at the 2025 Business Traveller Awards.

From ~US$150–250.

Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel: Closed for renovation

Best forDo not book until further notice
BookingN/A — closed
PositivesHistoric significance; extraordinary private bay setting 30 minutes from central Muscat
Watch out for⚠️ Closed July 2026 for full renovation; expected to reopen approximately 2028

Al Bustan Palace is closed from July 2026 for a comprehensive renovation and will reopen approximately 2028. Do not quote or book. When it returns, it will likely reclaim its position as the most architecturally significant hotel in Oman — it was built as a state guesthouse in the 1980s, occupies a private bay 30 minutes from central Muscat, and has a lobby atrium that is one of the more extraordinary hotel interiors in the Gulf. Worth watching for when it reopens.

★ Our recommended picks in this tier.

Our shortlist: Mandarin Oriental Muscat (best hard product, central), St. Regis Al Mouj (best beach and STARS).

How to choose

The Mandarin Oriental and the St. Regis Al Mouj are the two strongest hotels in Muscat today, and they serve different guests. The MO wins on hard product, location, and design — it is the hotel to choose if you want the best room in the city within walking distance of the beach and restaurant strip, without a 20-minute drive to old Muscat. The St. Regis is the right call for beach, butler service, the clearest STARS programme implementation in Oman, and a Bonvoy redemption at the highest tier.

The Chedi remains worth booking for the pool and the GHM aesthetic. The programme change is important to understand: it is no longer a Hyatt property; book via Hilton Honors or direct for the best available perks.

The W is the right call for Bonvoy members who want a beachfront base at below-St.-Regis rates. The JW Marriott is a separate conversation — it is Muscat's best business hotel, not a leisure option in the same set.
