Where to Stay in Vietnam, Part 3a: The Central Coast — Da Nang, Quy Nhon & Nha Trang (2026)

Where to Stay in Vietnam, Part 3a: The Central Coast — Da Nang, Quy Nhon & Nha Trang (2026)

Part 3a of our area-by-area Vietnam series. The central coast is where Vietnam does beach resorts best — the dramatic Son Tra headland and the Hoi An sands around Da Nang, up-and-coming Quy Nhon, and the bay-and-island hideaways of Nha Trang and Cam Ranh. Here's where to stay, ranked.

This is the third instalment of our guide to where to stay in Vietnam, area by area — the first of two coastal parts (see Part 3b for the southern islands of Phu Quoc and Con Dao, plus Halong Bay cruises). The central coast holds the country's deepest bench of genuinely world-class resorts, from a Bensley masterpiece on a jungle headland to an Aman perched over a marine-park bay.

Rates are indicative nightly figures for a lead room/villa in mid-season, in US dollars. The central coast is at its best roughly February–August; see our best months to visit Asia guide for the detail (the Da Nang–Hue stretch has an autumn wet season).

Every resort below includes our preferred-partner package — breakfast for two, a ~US$100 resort credit, a room/villa upgrade on availability, and early check-in / late check-out — plus the loyalty points and status you'd normally earn at the chain properties, at the same rate as booking direct. Several here are strong points redemptions, noted in the verdicts.

Insider verdicts throughout are our own, informed by the long-running FlyerTalk luxury-travel threads — the praise and the caveats.

Da Nang & the Hoi An beaches

★ Our pick

The InterContinental Danang for the most spectacular setting and design (and IHG points value); the Four Seasons Nam Hai for villa-and-beach purists who want to be near Hoi An. Banyan Tree Lang Co and TIA round out the field.

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort IHG Luxury & Lifestyle perks

Bill Bensley's tiered masterpiece tumbles down a jungle hillside on the Son Tra peninsula, linked by its own funicular, with monkeys in the trees, four levels themed Heaven to Sea, and the two-Michelin-star La Maison 1888. It is one of the most dramatic resorts in Asia, and a stellar IHG redemption to boot. From ~US$500–900.

Insider verdict — FlyerTalk consistently rates this just behind the Nam Hai for the area — and several regulars actually prefer it, calling it "a far more interesting property… the food better, and it's way cheaper." The one real caveat is location: it's on the headland about 45 minutes from Hoi An, so it's a destination resort, not a base for old-town wandering.

Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai, Hoi An Four Seasons Preferred Partner perks

The area's most famous address — an all-villa resort on Ha My Beach, ten minutes from Hoi An, with three ocean-stepped pools, a beautiful spa on its own island, and the polished Four Seasons service you'd expect. Villas are large, many with private pools. From ~US$700–1,200.

Insider verdict — This is where FlyerTalk genuinely splits: some call the Nam Hai "simply the best by a mile," while others love the beach and pools but grumble about the villa layout and a "silly" raised bed platform. The beach, the grounds and the service are not in doubt — just go in knowing the room design divides people, and that it's pricier than the IC.

Banyan Tree Lang Co Virtuoso perks

Halfway between Hue and Da Nang on a quiet lagoon-and-beach stretch, Banyan Tree Lang Co is an all-pool-villa resort backed by mountains, with a golf course and a serious spa. The most private of the central-coast big names, and a good pairing with a Hue stay. From ~US$400–650.

TIA Wellness Resort Book with us

On My Khe Beach in Da Nang, TIA is the all-spa-inclusive original — every night comes with two spa treatments, the rooms are calm pool villas, and the focus is genuine rest. Close to the city and Hoi An, it's the wellness-led value pick of the strip. From ~US$300–450.

Quy Nhon

★ Our pick

Anantara Quy Nhon — the most complete resort on this quiet, up-and-coming stretch of coast. Zannier Bai San Hô for deeper seclusion and a barefoot, rustic-luxe feel.

Anantara Quy Nhon Villas Virtuoso perks

An all-villa hideaway on a private bay outside Quy Nhon, Anantara is the polished choice on Vietnam's quietest luxury coast — 26 ocean-view pool villas, a serious restaurant, and the kind of low-key seclusion that the better-known coasts have lost. From ~US$500–800.

Insider verdict — Travellers who've compared the two on this coast tend to give Anantara the edge over Zannier — "better food, better service, better villas, and more honest marketing." Tiny and remote, which is exactly the appeal; this is a do-nothing, total-escape resort.

Zannier Hotels Bãi San Hô Book with us

Spread across a huge private bay in neighbouring Phu Yen, Zannier is a rustic-luxe village of beach, hill and paddy-field villas that melts into its surroundings — 73 villas across a vast, wild estate, with a real sense of getting away from everything. From ~US$350–600.

Insider verdict — Reviewers love the seclusion and the setting, though some rate it a notch below Anantara on food and service for the money. Come for the wild, end-of-the-road privacy; it's a long transfer from anywhere.
Best for Deep seclusion and a barefoot, rustic-luxe estate

Nha Trang & Cam Ranh

★ Our pick

Amanoi — by common consent the finest resort in Vietnam, if budget allows. Six Senses Ninh Van Bay for a barefoot-luxury beach stay (and IHG points); the Anam for the best value on the Cam Ranh strip.

Amanoi Book with us

Aman's Vietnam outpost sits high above Vinh Hy Bay inside Nui Chua National Park — a serene composition of stone-and-timber pavilions and villas, a clifftop pool and an Aman Spa, with the brand's signature space, silence and near-flawless service. The most rarefied stay in the country. From ~US$1,500+.

Insider verdict — FlyerTalk's verdict is striking and consistent: Amanoi is "by far the best resort in Vietnam," with service and food a clear cut above the Six Senses. The honest caveat regulars raise: it's a clifftop nature resort, not a beach resort — the beach is small and has at times been criticised for upkeep — so come for the setting, spa and service, not for sand.
Best for The finest, most rarefied resort in Vietnam; setting and service over beach

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay IHG Luxury & Lifestyle perks

Reached only by speedboat across the bay from Nha Trang, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay is barefoot luxury at its best — rock, beach, water and hilltop pool villas scattered along a dramatic boulder-strewn shore, with the sustainability and spa focus the brand is known for. Now an IHG property, so points are in play. From ~US$700–1,200.

Insider verdict — The rustic-luxe villas, the private beach and the snorkelling are the draw, and many rate the setting more romantic than Amanoi's. The trade-offs are the Six Senses ones — deliberately rustic finishes and the boat-only access — and most reviewers still put Amanoi ahead on polish, food and service. The better choice if a real beach matters.

The Anam Cam Ranh Book with us

On Bai Dai beach near Cam Ranh airport, The Anam is an Indochine-styled resort that delivers genuine charm and a long beachfront at a fraction of the marquee rates — colonial villas, three pools and gardens. The value pick of the Cam Ranh strip. From ~US$200–350.

How to choose

For the Da Nang–Hoi An stretch, the InterContinental Danang is our pick for sheer drama and IHG value; choose the Nam Hai if you want villas and beach closer to Hoi An and don't mind the divisive room layout. Quy Nhon is for travellers who want the coast before the crowds — Anantara is the all-round winner. And on the Nha Trang/Cam Ranh coast, Amanoi is the finest stay in the country if budget is open, with Six Senses Ninh Van Bay the better choice if a real beach matters and The Anam the value play. For the southern islands and Halong cruises, see Part 3b via the series hub.
